The Nudge

Pastor:
Passage: Isaiah 9:1-4,1 Corinthians 1:10-18,Matthew 4:12-23

Today’s Gospel narrates a strange fishing expedition. Jesus utters simple words that change the course of human lives. No bling, no slick marketing or manipulation, no extravagant claims—just: “Follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people.” We are a people who value choice, who would like to believe it’s up to us whether we follow Jesus or not. But this Sunday’s lessons expose the impossibility of our pretending the God is not at work in the world or in our lives. The only way we can do that is to close our eyes and pretend that the dawn has not come, that it is still night. Arise, shine, your light has come!
