Faith and Works
Newton’s Third Law (“For every action, three is an equal and opposite reaction.”) applies not just to physics, but to religion as well. At least, that is one way to look at how James, the brother of Jesus and leader of the Jerusalem Church, responded to Paul’s concept that we are saved by faith, not by anything we do. James countered: “Faith without works is dead.” Actually, they were in agreement; each had a different idea of what is meant by “faith” and “works.” Although a 2000-year-old argument, it is a critical distinction for us to make still today.
