Love. Love God, love self, love your neighbor. That’s the gospel in a word: love. Both Jesus and the scribe can agree on that. “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” And yet, it is one thing to know what the Lord commands, quite another to do it, put that love in practice daily. Do we really want to be “not far” from the kingdom? In a sense, saints (whom we celebrate this Sunday) are those who are so close that kingdom is within them.
