What an astounding idea: true power being made perfect in weakness! Do we believe it? Dare we act on it? Jesus sends out his disciples with nothing but a staff and the shirt on their back. Paul claims God leaves his “thorn in the flesh” right where it is so that the ultimate success may be seen as God’s alone. For us 21st century followers of Jesus, our reliance on human resources, earthly support, and worldly might is a grave temptation to put our trust in the wrong things. Scripture warns that our ministries will not always be received. Yet, we are to press on, shaking the dust off our feet, and go to those who will receive us and the gifts we being in the name of Christ.
