The power to protect and redeem Israel is seen in new and vital ways through the giving of the Holy Spirit. The same people God called by name, and accompanied through fire and water, are blessed with the gift of the Spirit. Not just for Jews, or even Samaritans, this blessing is bestowed on all who accept Jesus as their Savior. But with this blessing also comes judgment. The righteous will be gathered like wheat to the granary, but the unrighteous will be burned like chaff. We do well to take our own baptism very seriously.
