Fear …and Fear Not
Fear. Amazing, sometimes, how much we are driven by fear. It can paralyze us, keep us up in the middle of the night, make us respond to other people and situations in ways that are not good. Jesus tells his disciples, and us, not to fear. Or, at least, not to fear any circumstance of life. Not that life is easy; but Christ has come, in a sense, to disrupt our lives, in order to bring us to faith. A healthy faith involves healthy fear: knowing what to fear. As Jesus cautions, “Don’t be afraid of those who want to kill you. They can only kill your body; they cannot touch your soul. Fear only God who can destroy both body and soul in hell.”
