On this special Sunday, between the Ascension of our Lord and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, we do well to remember Christ’s promise, “Lo, I am with you always.” Jesus the Christ has ascended beyond our realm of experience, extending salvation to all time and place. Often, we are found peering upward, as if we could limit him to our spheres of comprehension, thinking clouds can hide him. But, even more so than a mother, He loves and protects us—from a distance and intimately up close.
