Jesus’ prayer for His disciples speaks of the unity between God, Jesus, and us. It is a beautiful relationship, but sometimes discipleship does cost. Can we keep the faith when we are unjustly accused? Can we sing God’s praises in the dark dungeons of despair? Can we boldly cling to Christ our Savior when the foundations of the world—or wherever we feel imprisoned—are shaken? Jesus pleads, “May they be one!” On this day when we honor mothers, perhaps being loving brothers and sisters is the best gift we can give God.
