All along, Jesus hinted to his disciples what his mission was, but in today’s Gospel he speaks plainly of his destiny—suffering, death, and resurrection. A life in Christ, rather than simply comforting us or excusing us from the pain of this world, instills in us the courage to face up to what we fear most—including suffering and death. Jesus does not turn away from pain, and he offers strength and hope to all who follow him.
