Who Do You Say that I Am?
“Sticks and stones can break my bones, but names will never hurt me!” How untrue that is. There is great power in words, in what we say and how we say them. While James warns his readers how destructive the tongue can be, Isaiah’s Suffering Servant is able to sustain the weary with a word. Peter’s rock-solidness is reflected in his bold confession of Jesus as Messiah; yet how quickly he must be rebuked for spouting Satan’s point of view. All the more reason for us to be mindful of not just our thoughts and deeds, but our words as well.
