Whose Temple Is It?

Where is God? We readily acknowledge He is everywhere—all creation is His abode. And yet, we also tend to think of Him residing in holy places: churches, temples, and the like. Solomon, having built a lavish temple for the God of Israel, recognized two things in his dedication prayer. That God cannot be confined to a building; and that any structure we set up for Him needs to be open to all people. Jesus’ action in cleansing the Temple bears that out, as does Peter’s view that we are His temple, living stones built into a spiritual house.
