The Fertile Word

Passage: 8:1-11,Matthew 13:1-9,Matthew 13:18-23

It is much easier seeing the adult in the photograph of an infant than projecting what a baby will look when fully grown. The same thing is true with seeds. For the next few Sundays, the Gospel lessons will deal with seeds, and the Old Testament lessons with young Jacob, the seed of Israel. Even though small and seemingly insignificant, each seed contains its entire future — and, if receiving the proper light and nourishment, it will eventually grow into mountain-moving proportions. So maybe, unlike that photo of a tiny tot, our faith should provide a snapshot of the future!
